Thus says the Lord God: Remove the turban and take off the crown. Is this not the one who exalted the lowly and humiliated the proud? I will bring upon it injustice, injustice, injustice, and this will not cease until the one comes to whom judgment belongs, and I will give it to him. Septuagint: And you, profane and unjust ruler of Israel, whose day has come, at the end of the time of iniquity.

The oracle turns to name its target, thou, profane wicked prince of Israel, identified as Zedekiah. The clause, until he come whose right it is, is read by many of the older commentators as a promise of the rightful heir. A minority reading confines the verse to the near future.

Clarke noted that the Hebrew word is given three times, a total overthrow. He and Wesley read the one to whom it belongs as the Messiah, the son of David, with an echo of Genesis 49:10. The throne waits for its rightful king.
