You fear the sword
on Ezekiel 11:8-12
“You fear the sword, so I will bring the sword against you,” and the leaders are handed “into the hands of foreigners.” The recognition formula comes twice, in verses 10 and 12. The charge is imitation of the nations: “you have conformed to the ordinances of the nations around you.”
This site's exposition
even to the borders of Israel
The leaders will fall by the sword at the borders of Israel. Albert Barnes points to Riblah, on the northern border, where the king of Babylon judged Zedekiah and the princes, as Jeremiah 52:9 and 10 record. There they will know that He is the LORD.

The Church Fathers1 voice
(Verse 2 onwards) And behold, at the entrance of the gate were twenty-five men, and in their midst I saw Jaazaniah the son of Azzur, and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, the princes of the people. And he said to me, Son of man, these men devise iniquity and give wicked counsel in this city, saying, 'The houses have been recently built. This is the pot, but we are the meat.' Therefore, prophesy against them, prophesy, son of man.

Ye shall fall by the sword,....
A message of comfort to those who were carried captives into Babylon and were there in the depth of despondency, thinking they should never rise. And, as the former are assured that God has judgments in store for them notwithstanding their present security, so the later are assured that God has mercy in store for them notwithstanding their present distress,
And there is no fence against the judgments of God when they come with commission, no, not in walls of brass. They were afraid of trusting to the mercy of strangers. "But," says God, " I will deliver you into the hands of strangers, whose resentments you shall feel, since you were not willing to lie at their mercy." See Jer. xxxviii.

in the border of Israel--on the frontier: at Riblah, in the land of Hamath (compare 2Ki 25:19-21, with 1Ki 8:65). ye shall know that I am the Lord--by the judgments I inflict (Ps 9:16).

How the passage was read
What the Jewish commentators add
by the border of Israel At the end of the boundary; that is Riblah, the land of Hamath, which is Antioch. There Zedekiah was judged by Nebuchadnezzar, as is stated in the Book of (II) Kings (25: 6f.). There he slaughtered his sons, there he put out his eyes.
