on Deuteronomy 18:3-5
Leviticus 7:31-34 had given the priest the breast and the thigh of the peace offerings. Albert Barnes reads “the shoulder, the jowls, and the stomach” as head, body and legs, so a portion of the whole animal reaches the priest.

Numbers 18:12 had already given the priests the freshest oil and the finest new wine and grain offered as firstfruits. The first wool sheared from the flock is added here. Albert Barnes counts such firstfruits among the holy gifts God reserved for himself when he granted the land.
