Chapter summary
Covenant renewed. Two new tables hewn; Moses ascends alone in the morning; the LORD descends in the cloud and proclaims the Name: ‘the LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth … forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty’. The covenant is remade with the same commands and feasts. Forty more days without bread or water. When Moses comes down, his face shines. He knows it not. He veils himself before the people; but when he speaks with the LORD he uncovers it. 2 Corinthians 3 lifts this chapter into the freedom of the new covenant.
