Whatever charge we have, if we see God giving us the charge and calling us to it, we may hope he will give us wisdom for the discharge of it. Perhaps Solomon had an eye to this prayer of his father for him, in the prayer he offered for himself: Lord, give me a wise and understanding heart.

on 1 Chronicles 22:11-13

David charges Solomon, “Be strong and courageous”, the words the LORD gave Joshua in Joshua 1:6-9 for taking a land. David's deathbed words in 1 Kings 2:2-3 also tell Solomon to be strong. Kings then turns to Joab and Shimei, and Chronicles keeps only the temple charge.

David prays that the LORD will give Solomon insight and understanding to keep the Law when he rules Israel. Matthew Henry thinks Solomon may have had this prayer in mind when he later asked God for a wise and understanding heart. Henry adds that God equips those He calls.
