These were the descendants of Manasseh

on Numbers 26:29-34

Manasseh's roll reaches Hepher and Zelophehad, then records five daughters a muster of men who "can serve in the army" had no need of. In chapter 27 they ask a share of the inheritance this census is taken to divide.

Zelophehad's house enters the roll with no man to be counted in it. Jamieson, Fausset & Brown explain that shares were fixed by the number of persons twenty years old at this census. Recording the daughters by name keeps his house in view when the land is shared.
