The sons of Judah were Er and Onan
on Numbers 26:19-22
Judah's roll names Er and Onan only to say "they died in the land of Canaan". The roll goes on to Perez, whose line Ruth 4:18-22 carries down to David and Matthew 1:3 to Christ.

Hezron and Hamul are grandsons of Judah through Perez, yet each heads a clan beside Judah's sons. The roll does this in several tribes, with Machir and Gilead in Manasseh, Ard and Naaman in Benjamin, and Heber and Malchiel in Asher.
