on Genesis 50:22-23
Joseph lives to a hundred and ten and sees Ephraim's sons to the third generation. Machir's sons are brought up on Joseph's knees, the sign of a child received into the family. Ephraim's line is counted first here, as Jacob set him first. Numbers 32:40 gives Machir's clan Gilead.

Seeing children's children is the blessing Psalm 128:6 asks for the man who fears the LORD. Joseph, sold by his brothers at seventeen, lives to see the sons of Ephraim and Manasseh multiply. Machir's line later sends commanders to Deborah's battle at Judges 5:14.
