took Dinah out of Shechem's house

on Genesis 34:26-29

Dinah has to be taken out of Shechem's house, which tells the reader where she had been since verse 2. Jacob's other sons then loot the city, and Gill marks the turn in it, that men who accepted circumcision to gain Jacob's livestock lost their own, with the flocks and herds and donkeys going and everything in the houses. The women and children are carried off.

Whom they had been just treating with in a seeming friendly manner: Shechem was the chief aggressor, and his crime was very heinous; but considering that he did all he could, after the fact was committed, to make recompence for the injury done, he deserved other treatment, at least mercy should have been shown him.
