Eleven lay houses follow, each with its own count, beginning with Eliehoenai of Pahath-Moab and 200 men. Pahath-Moab, Adin and Elam also stand in Ezra 2 and Nehemiah 7, where the numerals differ. The difference is traced to copyists or to two stages of one register, with no verdict given.

Zattu sent 945 men in the first return, by Ezra 2:8. Shecaniah son of Jahaziel now leads 300, the most registered with any family head in verses 3 to 14. Albert Barnes notes that the Septuagint and Syriac supply omissions here and at verse 10.
