Ezra must deliver to the God of Jerusalem all the articles given to him. These sacred articles are handled with the same care as the money. Anything more the house needs, he may pay for from the royal treasury, a provision with no limit named in these two verses.

Gill reads the need as the adorning of the house of God, paid from the king's treasury where the tribute was kept. Darius had paid the builders from the royal treasury at 6:8. The king now supplies a finished house.

This was considerately done; for Ezra, having yet to enquire into the sate of things, knew not what he should have occasion for and was modest in his demand. It was also kindly done, and evinced a great affection to the temple and a great confidence in Ezra.
