during the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia
on Ezra 7:1-5
Many years later marks a silence of roughly six decades. Ezra's pedigree runs to Aaron the chief priest, and John Wesley notes that several generations are omitted. Ezra 2:62 has already put priests without a recorded genealogy out of the priesthood, so this scribe's credentials stand before he speaks.

Zerahiah, Uzzi and Bukki match 1 Chronicles 6:5 to 6 name for name. Counting down from Aaron, Bukki is the fourth generation, Uzzi the fifth and Zerahiah the sixth. The two lists agree at every step from Aaron to Meraioth.
