6 notes on this verseFor Jozachar - This person is called Zabad in 2Ch 24:26; and Shimeath his mother is said to be an Ammonitess, as Jehozabad is said to be the son, not of Shomer, but of Shimrith, a Moabitess. They buried him with his fathers in the city of David - But they did not bury him in the sepulchres of the kings; this is supposed to express the popular disapprobation of his conduct. Thus ended a reign full of promise and hope in the beginning, but profligate, cruel, and ruinous in the end.

The formula gives way at once to conspiracy, as his servants kill Joash “at Beth-millo, on the road down to Silla.” Millo was the royal building David had raised. The throne passes on, and the one dynasty promised for David's sake outlives the king who had repaired its temple.

Jozabad son of Shimeath
The first assassin is Zabad at 2 Chronicles 24:26, and Adam Clarke notes that Chronicles makes his mother Shimeath an Ammonite. The second is there the son of Shimrith, a Moabite. Clarke adds that Joash lay outside the tombs of the kings, taken as a mark of the people's disapproval.
