The closing formula credits Jehu with all his might, worthy of a fuller record, yet the record itself stays thin. Jehu rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria, among the kings whose house he destroyed, and his son Jehoahaz reigned in his place.

John Gill notes that Samaria held the graves of Omri and Ahab, citing 1 Kings 16:28. Jehu's son Jehoahaz followed him and, by Gill's count from 2 Kings 13:1, reigned seventeen years. He is the first of the four generations promised at verse 30.
