on 1 Kings 3:8-9
Solomon calls Israel “a people too numerous to count or number”, an echo of the promise to Abraham. He asks for “an understanding heart”, a hearing heart in the Hebrew, “to discern between good and evil”. That phrase reaches forward to the case that closes the chapter.
