on 1 Chronicles 4:28-33
Simeon's inheritance is listed as cities, matching Joshua 19, where the tribe's portion lay within Judah's allotment because Judah's share was too large. The note, These were their cities until the reign of David, marks the date of the Chronicler's source. Some of the towns changed hands in David's lifetime.

Bethuel, Hormah, Ziklag
Hormah takes its name from the destruction Israel vowed on the Canaanite towns there in Numbers 21:3. Achish of Gath later gave Ziklag to David, and 1 Samuel 27:6 says it belonged to the kings of Judah from then on. Joshua 19:4 to 5 lists all three.
