6 notes on this verseBoth for the shew-bread - It was the priests’ office to place this bread before the Lord, and it was their privilege to feed on the old loaves when they were replaced by the new. Some of the rabbins think that the priests sowed, reaped, ground, kneaded, and baked the grain of which the shew-bread was made. This appears to be a conceit.

Now that they carry nothing, the Levites assist the priests in “the courts and chambers”, purify the holy things and prepare the showbread. They “stand every morning to give thanks and praise to the LORD”. This daily praise carries forward the thanksgiving of 1 Chronicles 16:34.

The Levites prepare the showbread, the flour and the wafers. Adam Clarke says the priests set the bread before the LORD and ate the old loaves when fresh ones came. He calls the rabbis' claim that priests grew and baked the grain a mere conceit.
