If, however, the spot on his skin is white

on Leviticus 13:4-8

Where the case is doubtful the answer is time. The priest shall isolate the infected person for seven days, looks again, and if nothing has changed isolates him for another seven days. Nothing is done to the sore meanwhile, so the instrument of diagnosis is waiting.

Spreading alone settles the case here, with no mention of white hair or depth. Matthew Henry reads the rule morally. A stop in the course of a sin gives hope, and a sin that gains ground every day marks a man going downhill.
