Several of these characteristics, taken separately, belong to other blemishes of the skin as well; so that none of them was to be taken alone, and it was only when the whole of them concurred that the Jewish priest, in his capacity of physician, was to pronounce the disease a malignant leprosy.

The same procedure runs twice more for sores that begin from something else, a boil that healed and a burn. The signs looked for stay the same, white hair and a depth below the skin, and the seven days return in both.

The signs used for the boil at verse 20 are applied to the burn without change, white hair and depth below the skin. Jamieson, Fausset and Brown say only these signs together settled the case. A wound from fire is judged like any other.
