The chapter ends in nearly the words of chapter 23. “The fierce anger of the LORD will not turn back until He has fully accomplished the purposes of His heart.” The closing line, “In the days to come you will understand this,” aims the whole oracle forward.

These lines repeat 23:20 almost word for word, where the storm fell on the false prophets. John Gill reads the purposes of the Lord's heart as twofold, grace to His people and wrath on their enemies. Full understanding waits for later days.

The Lord will not turn away the anger of His indignation until He has performed and accomplished the thoughts of His heart. In the latter days, you will understand this. The whirlwind of the Lord's fury and the rushing storm and tempest will rest upon their heads, whether they be demons or those who have blasphemed the Son of God.

Or, rather, it refers to the promises of their enlargement, which had been often mixed with his other discourses. He must collect them and put them together, and God will now add unto them many like words. He must write them for the generations to come, who should see them accomplished, and thereby have their faith in the prophecy confirmed.

In the latter days ye shall consider it - By the latter days the Gospel dispensation is generally meant; and that restoration which is the principal topic in this and the succeeding chapter refers to this time. Had the Jews properly considered this subject, they would long ere this have been brought into the liberty of the Gospel, and saved from the maledictions under which they now groan. Why do not the Jews read their own prophets more conscientiously?
