he moved to a land far away from his brother Jacob
on Genesis 36:6-8
Esau takes his wives and sons and daughters and moves away from his brother Jacob. The reason given is possessions too great for dwelling together, the words used of Abram and Lot at Genesis 13:6. Deuteronomy 23:7 tells Israel not to despise an Edomite, for he is a brother.

The land where they stayed is in Hebrew the land of their sojournings, megurim, ground held as foreigners. God promised Abraham that land by the same name at Genesis 17:8. Jacob's account opens on it at Genesis 37:1.
