on Genesis 36:20-23
Genesis lists the Horites who held Seir before Esau reached it, and gives them the care it gives the covenant family. They are first named at Genesis 14:6, among the peoples Chedorlaomer struck. Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon and Anah head the list, and Dishon, Ezer and Dishan close it.

Shobal's five sons make the largest household among the sons of Seir. 1 Chronicles 1:40 spells two of them Alian and Shephi. Shobal is also a name in Judah's line, the father of Kiriath-jearim at 1 Chronicles 2:50.
