Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up - It is likely that the Hur mentioned here is the same with that Hur mentioned 1Ch 2:19, who appears from the chronology in that chapter to have been the son of Caleb, the son of Ezron, the son of Pharez, the son of Judah. The rabbins and Josephus say he was the brother-in-law of Moses, having married his sister Miriam. He was a person in whom Moses put much confidence; for he left him conjoint governor of the people with Aaron, when he went to confer with God on the mount, Exo 24:

Joshua is named here for the first time in Scripture, choosing men for a fight. The work is split between the valley and the hilltop, the sword below and the staff of God above.

Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up

Adam Clarke identifies the Hur on the hill with the Hur of 1 Chronicles 2:19, a son of Caleb in Judah's line. On that reading he is Bezalel's grandfather.

By way of the plain meaning of Scripture, when Moses was compelled to lower his hands because of weariness, he saw that Amalek prevailed. He then commanded Aaron and Hur to support them, and thus he would not lower them again.
