God's promise may be safely relied on, for no word of his shall fall to the ground. The death of the unbelieving courtier, that questioned the truth of Elisha's word. Divine threatenings will as surely be accomplished as divine promises.

The city empties into the abandoned camp and takes what the four lepers had only sampled, and the market answers Elisha's word to the letter, a measure of fine flour for a shekel, two measures of barley for a shekel, exactly as promised at sundown the day before. The text names its own standard for truth, according to the word of the Lord, the same formula Kings uses whenever a spoken word and its outcome are set side by side for the reader to compare.
