The king sets the scoffing officer over the gate, and the hungry crowd tramples him there on its way to the food. He sees the plenty with his own eyes and eats none of it, “just as the man of God had foretold”.

John Gill explains the repetition of verses 1 and 2 here as a way to mark how exactly the prophecy was kept. Matthew Henry adds that God never promises an end without knowing where to find the means. The means here was an empty Aramean camp.
