The Thirty are given by name and town, and the roll opens with Asahel, dead since Abner killed him at 2:23. At verse 34 stands “Eliam son of Ahithophel the Gilonite”, and since 11:3 calls Bathsheba the daughter of Eliam, some make Ahithophel her grandfather.

Abiezer the Anathothite, one of the Thirty, was from Anathoth, a Levite town of Benjamin and the home of Jeremiah. John Gill identifies Mebunnai the Hushathite with Sibbecai of 1 Chronicles 11:29, who killed a giant at 21:18. Gill traces the Hushathites to Hushah of Judah.
