The Thirty are given by name and town, and the roll opens with Asahel, dead since Abner killed him at 2:23. At verse 34 stands “Eliam son of Ahithophel the Gilonite”, and since 11:3 calls Bathsheba the daughter of Eliam, some make Ahithophel her grandfather.

Maharai the Netophathite
John Gill identifies Zalmon with Ilai of 1 Chronicles 11:29, of the Ahohite family that also produced Eleazar in verse 9. Netophah lay near Bethlehem, and Nehemiah 7:26 lists the two together. Maharai was a neighbour of David's own town.
