And Abijam slept with his fathers,.... That is, died as they did: and they buried him in the city of David, in the sepulchre of his royal ancestors, David, Solomon, and Rehoboam: and Asa his son reigned in his stead; who perhaps was the eldest of his twenty two sons, 2Ch 13:21.

Verse 6 repeats almost word for word the notice of 14:30, and verse 7 gives the same standing war under Abijam's own name. Keil and Barnes read verse 6 as the old notice still running under the new king, since 2 Chronicles 13 records Abijam's campaign against Jeroboam.

Abijam was buried in the City of David with Rehoboam, Solomon and David. John Gill allows that Asa was the eldest of the twenty-two sons counted at 2 Chronicles 13:21. Asa reigns forty-one years.
