Which is repeated, partly to observe that the whole kingdom submitted to him, though an usurper and murderer, and the place where he kept his court, as also the time of his reign, as follows: twenty four years; which were as long as both Jeroboam and his son reigned.

The accession formula for Baasha uses the words just used of Nadab, since he “walked in the way of Jeroboam and in his sin”. The man who carried out the sentence of the LORD on the house of Jeroboam stands under the same charge before his reign properly begins.
