the leaders of the people
on Nehemiah 10:14-27
The lay heads of families close the roll, the family names that head the register of the first return in Ezra 2 and Nehemiah 7. The generation that came up under Zerubbabel and the generation that seals the covenant under Nehemiah are the same houses, the old remnant still standing.

Magpiash, Meshullam, Hezir
Meshullam son of Berechiah repaired two sections at 3:4 and 3:30, and 3:4 names his grandfather Meshezabel, the name that seals in the next verse. Hezir is also the name of the seventeenth priestly course at 1 Chronicles 24:15. This Hezir signs among the laity.
