on Jeremiah 35:15-17
The Lord widens the charge into the book's whole complaint, I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, the same standing patience Jeremiah has already voiced for himself now spoken for the whole prophetic line before him. The offer was plain, return, amend, stop serving other gods, and stay in the land already given; the answer was the same refusal repeated, ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me. Barnes reads verse 17's sentence, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, as the direct legal consequence of that refusal, judgment following disobedience the way it does throughout the book.
