The voice names the room “the place of My throne and the place for the soles of My feet,” where He will dwell forever. Israel's kings defiled His holy name. The command to remove “their prostitution and the funeral offerings for their kings” is the condition of the dwelling.

Adam Clarke and John Wesley read the kings' thresholds as idol altars set up beside the Lord's own, even in the temple courts. Only a wall divided palace and sanctuary. The new plan answers with open space around the house (41:10, 42:20).
