The footstool (not mentioned in Kings) was an essential appendage to an Oriental throne; it appears everywhere in the Egyptian, Assyrian, and Persian sculptures.

Barnes notes that the footstool is absent from 1 Kings 10. He calls it a standard part of an Eastern throne in the sculpture of Egypt, Assyria and Persia. Here it is gold and attached to the throne.
