The Passover animals are roasted “according to the regulation,” while the other holy offerings are boiled in pots and quickly brought to the people. The priests are busy with burnt offerings and fat until nightfall, so the Levites prepare for the priests as well as for themselves.

Leviticus 3:16 claims the fat for the LORD, and it burned on the altar while the people ate. The Levites served the people first and themselves and the priests last. Matthew Henry draws the lesson that those who serve others in worship must keep up their own part in it.
