The descendants of Gad lived next to the Reubenites

on 1 Chronicles 5:11-17

Gad settled in Bashan, and verse 17 says the line was reckoned during the reigns of Jotham king of Judah and Jeroboam king of Israel. Barnes reads the double dating as a sign that Judah still held some claim over the tribes east of the Jordan after the kingdom split.

The line runs backward from Abihail through seven fathers to Buz, the earliest name in this Gadite family. The Gilead in this chain is a Gadite man. He is a different person from Gilead the grandson of Manasseh in Numbers 26:29.
