“There are six things that the LORD hates, seven” is a numerical form, a full list pressed one item past its round number. The list runs from “haughty eyes” through tongue, hands, heart and feet, and settles in the community with “one who stirs up discord among brothers”.

Pride heads the list the LORD hates. Hands that shed innocent blood name the murder of the guiltless, and the lying tongue stands between the look and the deed. Bede counted six capital crimes here and held the seventh, the sowing of discord among brothers, as greater still.

"A proud eye, an unjust tongue, hands that shed just blood." He [Solomon] emphasizes evil actions through members of the body used wickedly. As the eye, the tongue and the hands act in the body, in the same manner reflection, impulse and decision act in the soul. And, he [Solomon] did not enumerate these things to us without reason, but in order that we might learn to be moderate through them. Those who, while drinking the blood of the Lord, yet remain polluted with iniquity are shedding the blood of the just.
