Bring upon them the day of affliction, and crush them with double contrition. The Prophet curses against them, who reproach him with the word of the Lord, and say: Where is the word of the Lord? Let it come, that those who pursue him may be put to shame and may be ashamed and may return to salvation, so that they may fear the liars and not the one who predicts the truth.

The prayer “Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed” belongs to the confessions of chapters 11 to 20. Jeremiah reminds the LORD, who alone knows it, “I have not desired the day of despair”. He asks for his persecutors to be put to shame.

Adam Clarke reads these lines as simple predictions of the shame coming on the persecutors. Jerome reads them as a curse that hopes the shame will turn them back to salvation. John Gill names their weapons as scoffs and the question of where the word of the LORD is.
