4 notes on this verse(Verse 20) The merchants of Dedan, dedicated to sitting on carpets. LXX: The merchants of Dadan, with chosen animals for chariots. The Hebrew and the Septuagint differ greatly in this place, except for the name of the region which is near Dedan and Dadan. There is indeed a great difference between sitting on carpets and riding in chariots with chosen animals, and there is no doubt that chariots and horses would be viewed negatively if they were earthly.

The list continues through Dan and Javan with iron, cassia and calamus, Dedan again with precious cloths for chariots, and Arabia with the princes of Kedar supplying lambs, rams and goats, the pastoral trade of the desert tribes entering the same ledger as the manufactured goods of the cities. Sheba and Raamah close the section with the chief of all spices, and with all precious stones, and gold, the luxury trade of the far south reaching Tyre's market alongside everything else the ancient world produced. Gill reads the sheer breadth of the list, spices to sheep, iron to gold, as the chapter's own argument for the scale of what falls when the city falls.

Or, "cloths of freedom" (u); such as freemen and even nobles wore; and yet so extravagant were the Tyrians, that they bought these to line or cover their chariots with; this is different from the Dedan in Eze 27:15, and is either Dedan in Edom or Idumea, Jer 49:8, or in Arabia, the inhabitants of which descended from Dedan, a grandson of Abraham, Gen 25:3, which agrees with the following.
