The closing formula credits Jehu with might worthy of a fuller record, but the record itself stays thin, a silence Clarke and Henry both read as the price of a reign spent on force without matching devotion. Jehu is buried in Samaria among the very kings whose house he destroyed, and his son Jehoahaz succeeds him without incident. Twenty-eight years on the throne close a chapter that opened with seventy heads in baskets and ends with one king quietly asleep with his fathers.

Notice is taken, in general, of his might; but, because he took no heed to serve God, the memorials of his mighty enterprises and achievements are justly buried in oblivion.
