4 notes on this verseSo thunder-struck is Ahaziah with this message, when it comes from the prophet's own mouth, that neither he nor any of those about him durst offer him any violence, nor so much as give him an affront; but out of that den of lions he comes unhurt, like Daniel. Who can harm those whom God will shelter? Lastly, The prediction is accomplished in a few days.

The angel who sent Elijah to meet the messengers now sends him to the king: “Go down with him. Do not be afraid of him”. Elijah then asks the question a third time, to Ahaziah's face, “Is there really no God in Israel for you to inquire of His word?”

Spoken to Ahaziah's face, the question now includes the phrase His word, naming what the king passed over when he sent to Ekron. The sentence is the same one the messengers carried. Matthew Henry noted that it came to pass within a few days.
