Ben-hadad's strike against Naphtali and its cities buys Asa exactly what his silver purchased, forcing Baasha to abandon Ramah and withdraw to Tirzah, the town that will serve as Israel's capital until Omri builds Samaria. Asa turns the abandoned stone and timber into two fortresses of his own, Geba and Mizpah, so the very materials meant to besiege Judah end by defending it. The chapter records the tactical success without recording whether it changed the king's later trust; Chronicles supplies the rest.

Then Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the . . . house of the Lord--Asa's religious character is now seen to decline. He trusted not in the Lord (2Ch 16:7).
Ijon is probably marked by the ruins called “Tel-Dibbin,” which are situated a few miles northwest of the site of Dan, in a fertile and beautiful little plain which bears the name of “Merj’ Ayun” or “meadow of fountains.” On Abel-beth-maachah, or Abel-maim (“Abel-on-the waters”) and Dan, see the marginal references For Cinneroth or Genesareth see Jos 11:2.
