the leaders of the households
on 1 Chronicles 29:6-9
The leaders of the households, the officers of the tribes, the commanders and the officials over the king's work answer first. Verse 9 names the measure Chronicles applies to every offering, that they gave “freely and wholeheartedly”. The people's rejoicing and David's own great joy answer each other.
This site's exposition
the people rejoiced at the willing
The people rejoiced at the willing gifts of their leaders, given to the LORD freely and with a whole heart. King David rejoiced greatly as well. Matthew Henry counts the power to give willingly as a work of God's grace, the theme of David's prayer in verses 13 and 14.
