The leaders of the households, the officers of the tribes, the commanders and the officials over the king's work answer first. Verse 9 names the measure Chronicles applies to every offering, that they gave “freely and wholeheartedly”. The people's rejoicing and David's own great joy answer each other.

Jehiel the Gershonite received the precious stones. John Gill links these stones to those listed in verse 2 and notes that Jehiel and his sons kept that treasury. Albert Barnes compares Exodus 35:27 and finds the same spirit as at the setting up of the tabernacle.

and they with whom precious stones were found--rather, "whatever was found along with it of precious stones they gave" [BERTHEAU]. These gifts were deposited in the hands of Jehiel, whose family was charged with the treasures of the house of the Lord (1Ch 26:21).
