on 1 Chronicles 19:14-15
Joab advances and the Syrian mercenaries break first; seeing their hired strength gone, the Ammonites likewise flee, back into the city they had marched out of. Joab does not press the siege but returns to Jerusalem, leaving the city standing for the second campaign 1 Chronicles 20:1 will open. The rout matches 2 Samuel 10:13-14 without variation; Chronicles adds nothing here beyond the bare report.
