on 1 Chronicles 19:10-13
Joab divides the army with his brother Abishai, each ready to rescue the other. He leaves the outcome to the LORD: “May the LORD do what is good in His sight”. These words, unlike any others given to him, come from the man who elsewhere kills Abner and Amasa.

Joab's address before the engagement displays the faith and piety that became a commander of the Hebrew people. The mercenaries being defeated, the courage of the Ammonites failed; so that, taking flight, they entrenched themselves within the fortified walls.
