Hebrews 13:1-3

The sermon lands in duties, and the first is simply that philadelphia continue, tested love kept alive under pressure. Hebrews 13:7-8

The first rulers to remember are the departed ones, who have spoken unto you the word of God, whose faith is to be followed while considering the end, the outcome, of their conversation. Against the passing of teachers stands the verse the church has kept as a creed in eight words: Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. The context gives the connection, the unchanging Lord outlasting every generation of his servants, and the changelessness covers his person and his working alike.

Hebrews 13:9-10

The drift the whole letter fights is named a last time: be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines, and the specimen is dietary, meats which have not profited them that have been occupied therein; the heart is established with grace, not with menu. We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle turns the tables on the pull of the old cultus, and the altar's readings are old, the cross, the Lord's table, Christ himself, each with its holders. Hebrews 13:11-14

Hebrews 13:15-16

Hebrews 13:17-19

The aim is the congregation's own good, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief, for that is unprofitable for you; grieved pastors are a loss to the flock that grieves them. The writer then asks what he has commanded, pray for us, with a personal hope attached, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

Hebrews 13:20-21

that great shepherd of the sheep: The benediction gathers the whole epistle: the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the letter's only direct mention of the resurrection, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, the covenant argument closing on Zechariah 9:11's and Isaiah 63:11's language. The request is the letter's perfect thread made prayer, make you perfect in every good work to do his will, katartisai, the mending word, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight. Through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever: the doxology's antecedent reaches most naturally to the Son.

Hebrews 13:22-25

The writer names his genre, suffer the word of exhortation, the same phrase Acts 13:15 uses for a synagogue sermon, and calls thirteen chapters a letter in few words, which readers have smiled at since.
