When he could find no other reason for his mercy he found it in his own glory, and seized the opportunity to display his power. If Israel does not deserve to be saved, yet Pharaoh's pride needs to be crushed, and therefore Israel shall be delivered. The Lord very jealously guards his own name and honour.

on Psalms 106:6-12
We have sinned with our fathers opens the confession proper, the psalmist joining his own generation to the wilderness generation rather than standing apart from it, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly stacking three verbs the way Psalm 105 stacked verbs of praise. Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt, they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies, but provoked him at the sea names the first failure at the very edge of deliverance, complaint rising before the water had even closed over Pharaoh's army. He saved them for his name's sake rather than for any merit in them, rebuking the sea and leading them through the depths as through the wilderness, and the waters covered their enemies so completely that there was not one of them left, the psalm crediting the rescue entirely to God's own reputation.
