Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron

on Numbers 4:17-20

Moses and Aaron are told, “Do not allow the Kohathite tribal clans to be cut off from among the Levites”. The risk rests on the men who pack, since verse 20 keeps the bearers from looking at the holy objects.

Life for the bearers depended on order. The priests went in first and named each man's load, so every Kohathite lifted what a priest had given him. John Gill reads may live as live long and escape a sudden death.
