The kings on this side Jordan hear what the kings of 5:1 heard, and where those hearts melted these men combine. The six nations named here are the six of Exodus 3:8 and Deuteronomy 20:17, which is the list the ban was written against. Their answer to the news stands first in the chapter so it can be weighed against Gibeon's answer two verses later, since both are reacting to the same report.

The narrative of the exploits is clear, and what is plainly expressed does not need explanation. Nevertheless, out of these visible things that were done, let us consider the wars and triumphs that the Lord Jesus, our Savior, led, although we may also perceive these things to be visibly fulfilled in him.
