The prophet passes from the image of the crocodile to that of dead bodies of the slain heaped up on the land. Some render “height,” “foulness.”

The image shifts from cedar to river beast. His flesh is laid upon the mountains, an image Fairbairn reads as the corpse itself covering the ground like a fallen mountain range. Clarke adds that watering the land with thy blood plays on Egypt's own dependence on the Nile's flood.
